Which courses count in my GPA scenario?
Enter your courses and flag which ones to include. Use this for any scenario where inclusion itself is the open question: transfer credit, a repeated course, or a pass/fail policy you are still confirming.
How we calculated this
Only courses with "Include" checked contribute anything at all; an excluded course is not treated as a zero, it is simply absent from both the credit total and the quality-point total. Using the example values above (3 credits at 4.0 included, 3 transfer credits excluded), the result is 4.0, exactly the included course's own GPA, completely unaffected by the excluded transfer credit.
Limitations
This does not know your school's actual inclusion rules for transfer credit, repeats, or pass/fail coursework; you decide what to include based on your own understanding of your school's policy, or to test a specific "what if" scenario.
Common mistakes
A common error is entering a transfer or pass/fail course as included with a made-up quality-point value just to see a number, then forgetting that number does not reflect a real school rule. Toggle inclusion to compare scenarios explicitly instead of guessing at a placeholder quality-point value for an excluded course. Another is assuming an excluded course drags your GPA toward a zero; it does not, since an excluded course is removed from both sides of the division entirely, not treated as a failing grade you happened to earn.
Frequently asked
- Why does this matter for transfer credit specifically?
- Many schools count transfer credit toward your degree but exclude it from your GPA entirely, since the grade came from a different institution's own grading scale; toggling inclusion off models that common case.
- What if I am not sure whether a course should be included?
- Run the calculation both ways and compare; if the difference matters to a decision you are making, confirm the real rule with your registrar before relying on either result.
- How is this different from Semester GPA?
- The math is identical; this version exists specifically to let you toggle inclusion per course when that is the actual question, rather than assuming every entered course counts.
- Can I use this to model a repeat-forgiveness policy?
- Yes; exclude the original attempt and include only the repeat to model a school that forgives the original grade entirely.
