How many more points do I need when questions are worth different amounts?

How we calculated this

Because this works directly in points rather than question counts, it does not matter that some questions are worth more than others. Additional points needed is your target percentage times the total possible, minus what you have already earned, rounded up to a whole point. Using the example values above (100 possible, 70% target, 30 already earned), you need 40 more points.

Limitations

This does not tell you which remaining questions to prioritize; it only gives the total point requirement. If every question is worth the same amount, the simpler Questions You Can Miss or Need Correct may be easier to use.

Common mistakes

A frequent error is entering the number of questions answered correctly where "points already earned" belongs, which only works if every question happens to be worth one point. On a test mixing, say, 2-point multiple-choice and 10-point short-answer questions, counting correct answers instead of summing their point values produces a wrong "earned" figure and therefore a wrong points-needed result. Always total the actual point values of what you got right, not the count of questions.

What if I have already met my target?

The result reports that your target is already secured by the points you have earned, with zero additional points needed.

What if more points are needed than remain possible?

The result reports the target as not reachable, since no combination of remaining points could close that gap.

Why does this round up to a whole point?

Because most tests only award points in the increments the question values allow; needing "39.4 more points" is not an actionable target, so the result rounds up to the next whole point you could realistically earn.

Does it matter which specific questions I still have left?

Not for this calculation, only the total points remaining and how many of those points you need matter here. Which specific questions to prioritize is a separate decision this tool does not make for you.
