What is my attendance rate so far?

Enter how many eligible sessions you have attended and how many have been held. Decide for yourself whether an excused absence counts as "eligible" before entering your numbers; this tool does not assume an excuse policy for you.

How we calculated this

Attendance rate is sessions attended divided by eligible sessions held. Using the example values above, 18 out of 20 eligible sessions is 90%.

"Eligible" is doing real work in that sentence: if your school excuses certain absences (documented illness, a religious observance, an approved school activity) from the denominator entirely, those sessions should not be counted in "eligible sessions held" at all, not counted as sessions you failed to attend.

Limitations

This does not know your school's own definition of an excused absence; you decide which sessions belong in the denominator before entering these two numbers. If your syllabus's rule changes mid-term (a new medical excuse, for example), recalculate with the corrected totals rather than trying to adjust the displayed percentage by hand.

Common mistakes

A frequent error is counting an excused absence as an eligible session you missed, which understates your real rate under a policy that would have excluded it entirely. The opposite error, excluding an absence your syllabus does not actually excuse, overstates your rate and can create an unpleasant surprise if a real cutoff exists. When your school's rule is ambiguous, use the stricter reading (count it as attended-eligible) until you confirm otherwise with your instructor.

Frequently asked

What if I have not missed anything yet?
Enter equal attended and held sessions; the result will show 100%, which is exactly correct and not a sign of an error.
Does being late count as an absence here?
Only if your school's policy treats tardiness as a full absence for this calculation; if your school converts a set number of tardies into one absence instead, apply that conversion yourself before entering your attended count.
Why does this show a percentage instead of just a fraction?
Because most attendance policies (and the next tool, Absences Remaining) state a minimum rate as a percentage, so this result is directly comparable to that kind of policy without an extra conversion step.
What if my total eligible sessions is 0 so far?
The calculator reports that no rate can be calculated yet, since dividing by zero eligible sessions has no meaningful answer; check back once at least one eligible session has been held.
