How we calculated this

Each band you define covers a half-open interval: at or above the lower bound, and strictly below the upper bound. A percentage matches exactly one band, or none if there is a gap in your scale. Using the example above, a B+ band of [87%, 90%) matches 89.5% exactly, since 89.5 is at least 87 and less than 90.

Limitations

Nothing here is a preset or a common convention; every band is exactly what you typed. If your course's real scale has a gap or an overlap, this tool will surface that rather than silently picking a side, since a mistake in your own scale is worth catching.

Common mistakes

A frequent error is entering bounds as decimals (0.87) instead of percentages (87) in a field that expects percentages, which shifts every band far outside any realistic score. Another is leaving an accidental gap, such as a B+ ending at 89% and an A- starting at 90%, which silently strands any score of exactly 89.5% with no matching band.

What happens if my percentage does not match any band?: The result says so directly, which usually means there is a gap between two of your bands. Check the upper bound of the band below and the lower bound of the band above.
Why is the upper bound exclusive?: So adjacent bands do not overlap: a B+ ending at 90% and an A- starting at 90% each claim exactly 90.0% without double-counting it.
Do I need to enter every band in my scale?: Only the bands relevant to the percentage you are checking, though entering the full scale once makes it easy to convert future scores without re-entering everything.
