Is my target cumulative GPA still mathematically possible?

Enter your current GPA and credits, your remaining credits, the maximum GPA your scale allows, and your target. This compares your target directly against the best possible outcome.

My Semester

Need your next decision? Best Attainable GPA

How we calculated this

This computes the same ceiling as Best Attainable GPA and directly compares your target against it. Using the example values above (3.2 GPA over 30 credits, 15 remaining at a 4.0 maximum, a 3.5 target), the ceiling is 3.4667, which is below the 3.5 target, so the target is not feasible with the credits entered.

Limitations

This only checks mathematical feasibility, not realistic likelihood; a target below the ceiling is possible in principle but may still require a perfect or near-perfect run through every remaining credit. It also depends entirely on the remaining-credit count you enter matching your real degree requirement.

Common mistakes

A common error is checking feasibility against too few remaining credits (forgetting credits still to come beyond just next term), which can make an actually-feasible target look impossible. Enter your full remaining credit count for the whole degree, or clearly scope the question to a shorter horizon if that is genuinely what you mean.

Frequently asked

What does "not feasible" actually mean here?
It means even a perfect GPA on every remaining credit would not reach your target; the target itself needs to change, not just your effort level.
What if my target is exactly at the ceiling?
It is feasible, but only just: it would require the maximum possible GPA on every single remaining credit with no room for anything less.
What should I do if my target is not feasible?
Consider a lower target, or more remaining credits (an additional term) to work with; both change the ceiling this comparison is measured against.
Does this tell me what GPA I actually need going forward?
Not directly; once you know a target is feasible, use GPA Needed Next Term or GPA Target Across Future Terms for the specific GPA required.
Should I run this before or after setting a target?
Before, ideally: checking feasibility first avoids spending time planning around a target that turns out to be mathematically impossible with your actual remaining credits.
